Man jail and caned for child abuse
A 48 years old man was jailed for 24 years and at least 24 strokes of cane for assualting and molesting an eight year old girl. The girl had injuries on her head and bruises on her hands. She was first spotted injured by her school counsellor. The man pleaded guilty for pulling her hair, punching her face and slashing her with a table ornament.
Attack on mosque kills 40
Militians stormed a mosque with army officers in Pakistan's garrison city of Rawalpindi on Friday leaving at least 40 people dead in an onslaught of gunfire, grenades and explosions. At least four gunmen launched the deadly attack, opening fire and tossing grenades into the crowd gathering for Friday prayers in the city.
Girl, 5, run over by car
She had started piano lessons at a music school in Punggol Plaza three weeks ago and was already showing a flair for the keys. On the way to her weekly class on Tuesday evening with her grandfather, a car ran into Lin Qian, killing the five-year-old instantly. The pair were believed to have been jaywalking across the two-lane Punggol Field road at about 8pm when she was hit.
Lover torched fish farm, jailed
A cleaner who had a dispute with her lover over financial and personal matters torched his fish farm, causing damage of more than $200,000. On Friday, Liu Gui Ling, 37, a Chinese national, was jailed for nine weeks for her mischief. She purposely threw two lighted matchsticks within the grounds of the Pasir Ris fish farm in April this year. She was jailed nine weeks.
Man found dead in office
The body of a 32-year-old Indian national was found inside an office unit of a building construction company at 25 Kaki Bukit Crescent on Friday morning. Police said they received a call from an employee of the company at about 9.15am. He was pronounced dead by paramedics about half an hour later. The case has been classified as murder. It is unclear what led to his death.

Teen gang attacks 3 boys
A 12 year old boy was at Tiong Bahru Park with two of his friends when a group of six teens confronted him on Wednesday afternoon. The gang accused the boys of having assaulted one of their member's younger brothers. The teens, aged 12 to 20, asked the boy and his friends to surrender their belongings, which included $30 in cash and a $500 mobile phone. The teens then punched one of the boys in the eye and slapped another in the back before fleeing.
Dead after wedding
Hours after celebrating his wedding, the groom was found dead on the driveway of the Hilton Hotel in Orchard Road early on Wednesday. Mr Vernon Leong Jun Wei, 31, who ran a computer shop in Sim Lim Square, had earlier held his wedding reception at the five-star hotel attended by over 300 guests. He was last seen smoking at the rooftop garden on the 24th floor of the hotel. His body, clad in T-shirt and shorts, was found on the driveway of the hotel at about 3am.
